While Nick’s parents were here for Thanksgiving, we spent a day at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. I haven’t been since 8th grade, but it was one of my favorite places from our school trip.
Mr. Washington definitely had a nice little estate! The house overlooks the Potomac River, has acres of land and is supposed to be the most popular historic estate in America.
Washington is buried at Mount Vernon. They built a tomb for him at the Capitol, but he obviously didn’t go there! I think they said on a tour that the tomb is still empty or is randomly used for storage.
Apparently Washington was really into exotic animals and had a camel at one time, so Mount Vernon has a Christmas Camel!
Mount Vernon is definitely worth a visit if you plan a trip to DC!
