Month One

Carson turned one month old yesterday!  I can’t believe it’s already time to write about his first month because I feel like I just wrote about bringing him home from the hospital!  This first month has flown by and in some ways, it feels like he’s always been a part of our family.

Here’s a little bit about his first month:

Your Dad was going to take off a week after you were born.  After a few days at home, he decided to take off for 2 weeks.  He had a hard time going back to work and leaving you.  I had a hard time with him going back too because I was nervous to be at home alone with you!  Gigi stayed with us for a few days and then we were truly on our own.  Unless you count Roxie…she’s adjusted to you a lot better than we thought she would!  Except when you cry at night…she quickly bolts to the living room and sleeps on the couch until you are asleep again.

ImageAfter a few days, we got into a routine of our own.  You are on a pretty good schedule already.  You eat every 3 hours-we could pretty much set our clocks by when you are ready to eat!  At night, you have started going for 4 hour stretches in between feedings sometimes.  It’s still really inconsistent though and 3 hour feedings are still the norm at night.  But that first night you went for 4 hours and we slept for 3 hours at a time felt AMAZING!!  I can’t imagine what it’s going to feel like to sleep through the night again.

ImageYou are a pretty content baby, except when you wake up and want to eat and we change your diaper first.  Then you show us how your lungs work!! You aren’t really a fan of taking a bath either.  You like it for the first few minutes.  But once it comes time to rinse you off, you get MAD!  Baths are a pretty quick process with you.  But you smell so delicious afterwards!

ImageWe’ve had several exciting diaper changes with you!  You have pooped on Dad mid-change about 3 or 4 times.  I thought it was hilarious until you got me one night. 🙂  You also got Aunt Carrie the very first time she came to meet you!

ImageYou have been great in the car so far….you usually fall asleep right away.  You also sleep in the stroller and seem to like walks.  I’m hoping you continue this and we can start running soon! ImageYou have been a great sleeper from day one and we’ve been able to lay you straight down to go to sleep.  You decided to change this up the past few days and we had a few rough nights that had us bouncing you at 3 a.m.  We let you fuss yesterday and you fought it at first, but the next sleep cycle went great and so did putting you back down at night.  I’m hoping this continues!

You have started taking naps in your crib, but you still sleep in the bassinet in our room at night.  I’m not ready to have you on the other side of the house yet. 🙂 You also love the swing and infant rocker.  You also love to take naps on your parents and grandparents!  You are a great little snuggle bug.

You’ve met lots of our friends and a lot of your family.  Both of your granddads are coming in the next two weeks to meet you.  We haven’t taken you to church or a restaurant yet, but we will in the next few weeks.  We wanted to make wait until you were a little older before we did that.

You had to have an antibiotic around week two because you had an infection.  I was very upset-thank goodness Dad was at the pediatrician’s office with us!  He will definitely be coming for your two month shots.  I’m not ready to tackle that on my own.

You weighed 7 pounds 1 ounce at birth and last week you were 9.15!  We think you are a little chunky monkey now. 🙂  You smile in your sleep sometimes or when we are talking to you.  You have started to grab our shirts and like grabbing a chunk of my hair now too!  You are starting to focus on people more when they are talking to you.  Your eyes are getting a little lighter and we can’t wait to see what color they will be.  Maybe green like both of your parents?!

Happy one month little man!  We can’t wait to continue to watch you grow.
